Recessionista
Monthly Musings may soon become Raving Rants if California doesn’t do something about its imploding deficit.
As card-carrying-Californians, we would love Mr. Terminator to explain how he expects said citizens to make less, a whole lot less due to the recession, pay more in state taxes, business taxes and triple our DMV renewals (won’t even go into the increased cost of fuel, food, and utilities). Sorry, the math doesn’t add up.
Here’s one thing that rings true, the Entertainment Industry is the largest industry in the state of California. Yet, a vast majority of feature films and even television series go out of state and often times out of the country to film due to California’s ridiculously high location fees, union contracts etc. We gals at Pitch! would like to suggest a simple 2-prong solution: lower fees (just a tad) and charge a fine for productions that do leave the state.
The above-the-line crew may think it’s ridiculous what the unions charge, however, I’m sure they could shave a million or two, or ten for that matter, off their paycheck. Oh and actors, please pony up to paying your taxes. Seems like it is the trend du jour, actors skipping out on their tax contributions and playing hide and go seek, while the rest of us folks play by the Democratic book and scrape by.
Whew. Feel so much better that we got that off our chests. Next month we hope to be back talking about ponies and ice cream.
